What is Search Engine Positioning?

Search Engine Positioning is the process which will enable your website to be positioned as high up as possible in the search engines’ result list. When potential customers look on the internet for organisations that provide your services, they generally start with one of the major search engines.

They will type in keywords such as “caribbean web hosting” or “st maarten web design” and from the list of results they will click on the links and visit the various sites.

Why do I need Search Engine Positioning?

If your web site does not appear on the first page of at least 2 or 3 of the major search engines, then you might as well only rely on marketing material and word-of-mouth to get visitors. What point is there in having a website if no-one will find out about it?

If some or all of your visitors are looking for companies in your area that supply your services, then there is a very high probability that they will use one of the major search engines to find a list of such companies.

Even if somebody is looking for you directly, but cannot remember your company name, they may look in the search engines for you. If they cannot find you but find other companies instead, you may lose those visitors. You can use paid listings with search engines, but this generally amounts to figures in the region of thousands of dollars. These types of marketing strategies are only worth considering after all the other options are considered first.

How does it work?

KEYWORDS. Firstly we ask you to provide us with a list of keywords. These are the words and phrases that when users type these in the search engine, you want your site to appear.

KEYWORD ANALYSIS. Then we analyse the keyword list by comparing previous search engine results against these keywords to see how popular they are, and also how many other web sites match that criteria.

Then we carefully weigh up unique keywords (so as to have less competition) against popular keywords (most likely to be searched for, but most competition). This way we can maximise the effectiveness of your keywords.

KEYWORD USAGE. Your chosen keywords must appear plenty of times within your site content and links and HTML tags. These strategies directly affect your keyword index. We provide a page critic service, where we use SEO tools to analyse your site and suggest improvements to content and HTML tags etc.

SUBMISSIONS. Contrary to popular marketing, there are only actually around 37 major search engine databases. The thousands of search sites that you see actually subscribe to these databases. We submit directly to these databases, NOT the search sites. We recommend submitting once a month for the first 3 months, and then once again when your site undergoes any substantial changes.

REPORTING. We provide automatic monthly reports that give you a summary of how your site performs in each of the search database for each of your keywords.

Combined with your WhosOn visitor statistics, you have a complete overview of your web marketing strategy.

What return on investment does SEO give me?

This is simple. If you get more relevant traffic to your site, then your sales are very likely to increase (providing your website design is good and your products/services are competitive).
